The big Oscar Night is coming soon. And two friends of mine from overseas, a horror film maker and a composer, are going to visit me on this great occasion. By the way, thats the kind of friends you end up with if you don’t choose too far from your field, which you should…
I am looking forward to the day when the Oscars are over. Why? Because I am not invited! But I will be driving a limo as a celebrity driver. Which is GREAT!! Anything is better BUT standing in a crowd and screaming at them. Who wants to go crazy about seeing actors anyway?
I just finished directing my thesis film this weekend and… even though I admire great acting when I see it, there is just so much you can see of your actors. It’s not that the fascination is gone working so close with them, but sometimes they don’t do things as you expect them to, and may be they need 12 takes to “get it”, when all they have to do is put some frickin life into their part. Very luckily my own actors were not of this kind
But sometimes the “talent” as they are called in the industry does not have that much talent.
And then they become nothing but jerks with neurosis. And guess what? You have to be the psychologist. So why would anyone (who is still sane) wait for hours, dress up and scream like a madman at a person like that? You wouldn’t do that to your boss, would you. But it is a part of Hollywood and even though I want the whole thing to be over, I can’t help being intrigued by the Oscars.
This is is the poster of my film “sink or swim” which will come out soon.
I don’t know what it is but making movies for me, especially in Hollywood, is a dream come true. But in film school, I see a lot of film students who do not share any kind of enthusiasm. Luckily, I don’t talk to those people.
But they exist and float around like fruit flies and should work at Jack in the box.
OK I have flaws too, actually I have a lot. But at least my love for movies makes me go work hard on my films. Orson Welles said once that if he sees a picture that shows him who the person is who did this picture, it s a good picture. Students seem to forget that, categorizing films in good or bad, putting a lot of crap into their films just because then they meet certain criteria which are generally appreciated by themselves and the like and the popcorn eating movie goer society.
I will let you know about what happens this year during the Oscars.
And I will not tell you the smirky TV stories but the real deal.
So long,
Bruno
